The biggest project of this show was painting the ocean floor. The Reilly Theatre is a large space, so we had to make sure that the paint felt like an ocean that was getting deeper the further back it went. My technique for this was starting with the sand. I started with a scumble, then used a breakup roller on top, and finished it off with a sprayer to achieve a sandy effect. For the water itself, it was a another scumble using various shades of blues and greens that we applied in a wavy motion. As we went back we mixed the lighter colors with the more vibrant ones until we got to the darkest blue, which we tinted with some black.
