This set was pretty minimal due to the fact that it was touring local libraries in EBR and needed to be simple enough to be set up fairly quickly. The backdrop ended up becoming a very important aspect of this set design. This is my first backdrop and I learned a lot about using perspective and shadows to achieve some depth. The main treatment is scumbles, with sponging over. The night sky is scumbles with gold stars to add a dreamy feel. I used joint compound to add texture to one of the buildings, but the backdrop was kind of wrinkled as time went on, but it worked as a fantastic texture to make the buildings look less flat. The fountain is inspired by talavera pottery and is one of my favorite parts of the set. Overall, I’m very proud of how this show turned out.
